How to get your app into the App Store - Part 1 - Creating a Developer ID & Enrolling into the D
If you're reading this you are thinking about building an app, are in the process of building one, or have built one and need to get it in the friggin' store!
Before you do all that you will need to create a developer ID and enroll into the developer program. This tutorial will walk you through that process.
What you'll need...
US $99 for the fee
Valid credit card
Patience...this process can take a while
Creating Apple Developer ID
First you must register as an Apple developer. Becoming a registered developer is free but it will cost $99 to submit an app to the store.
Start by going to the developer site and clicking on the "Account" tab.
Press "Create Apple ID"
Fill in the form, you will need a valid email address and some personal memories handy for the security questions.
Once you have gone through the Apple ID creation process you will need to sign in.
Afterwards, you will be greeted with a Developer Agreement. I would read through the entire document before checking the box (or two) at the bottom and submitting. You may even want to consult a lawyer before doing so.
Congratulations, you are now an Apple developer!
Enrolling in the Apple Developer Program
Being a registered Apple developer gives you access to a lot of information, but you need to enroll in Apple’s Developer Program in order to submit apps to the App Store. This is where the fee (US $99 per year) comes in. Unlike in the past, the fee will give you the ability to develop and submit apps for iOS, OS X, and Safari.
Click the button that says, "Join the Apple Developer Program" to get started with the enrollment process.
Then click "Enroll" on the upper right hand corner of the screen.
This tutorial will walk through enrollment for an individual. Enrollment for a company is a bit more complicated.
Scroll to the bottom and click "Start Your Enrollment"
Your Apple ID information will be automatically filled and you will be prompted to select your entity type.
In this tutorial, we select a sole proprietorship. Note: the app will be distributed under your legal name unless your company name is recognized as a legal entity in your country.
Next, enter your contact information to verify your identity.
Fill in the remaining fields and at the bottom you’ll see another license agreement. After you've read through the agreement and are ready, check the box and click "Continue."
You will be prompted to enter automatic program renewal. Check the box if you want this, otherwise proceed with the box unchecked.
You’ll now have to log in again using your newly created Apple ID.
Verify your billing information for the purchase. You will be asked to agree to the Terms & Conditions. Once you’re ready, check the box and click "Continue." Finally, confirm your intent to purchase the membership.
When you have completed the signup and processed the order you should receive a message like this one:
After you purchase the membership you may get a screen like the one below. This is to be expected as the order can take up to 48 hours to process.
That's it! You're ready to build an app and share it with the world!
